The two best players in the world matching each other goal for goal in the first of what may be many playoff matchups over the next decade. Both scoring hat tricks in the same game. Both tying games with late goals when defeat loomed.

Five one-goal games out of six.

Three overtime games out of six.

Winning two at home. Losing two on the road. Losing at home. Winning on the road.

"This is so good for our game . . . " Bruce Boudreau said Monday night. "I just wish it was for the Stanley Cup."

Yes, I think we are seeing something special. Special performances by the Caps and, yes, special performances by the Pens.

Game 7 will have an elated winner and a deflated loser.

Whichever I am late Wednesday night, I'm going to remember what a special season, what a special playoff series, this has been.

Rock the Red, from your easy chair or your seat in the arena. Make signs. Fill the lower bowl for warmups -- and cheer, don't just stand there watching! Drown out the video clips on the scoreboard. Stand for powerplays. Provide more cowbell. And, oh yes, bring an extra hat -- you may need it.
