The Sporting News has a new player poll out and, wouldn't you know, Alex Ovechkin is the pick of the litter, according to 292 NHL players.
Ovechkin won in a landslide, taking 147 of the 292 votes. Behind him, Evgeni Malkin and Pavel Datsyuk.
You could argue the Hart Trophy was "technically" already awarded, as Ovechkin captured his fourth Kharlamov trophy in April. The trophy honors the best Russian player in hockey each year, and considering that all three Hart nominees are Russian, Ovie's Kharlamov win could be a sign of things to come.
Now here's a thought to ponder: Could Ovechkin capture the Hart, Kharlamov and Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) in one year and has it ever been done before?
