It sounds like Russian hockey icon Sergei Fedorov may be heading back to the Motherland. Fedorov is reportedly considering a deal with the Russian KHL team, Metallurg. Puck Daddy found the story in the Russian newspaper Sport-Express.

Sport-Express reports that the deal is for two years at $3.8 million each. That's quite generous and is a salary that the Capitals simply couldn't match. Sergei Fedorov was on a one-year $4 million deal for this past season, but was troubled with injuries and skated his age at times.

Although that's not to say Fedorov wasn't valuable. His veteran leadership had a profound effect on the Capitals' young stars, especially the Russians, and even at his age he still had the game breaking ability he possessed in his youth, as seen by his game-winning-goal over the Rangers in the playoffs.

While the Capitals might be losing a legendary locker room personality, they are getting precious salary cap space in return. With Viktor Kozlov also rumored to be heading to the KHL, the Capitals' once gloomy cap situation could begin to see some light.
