Mike Knuble - RW - 6'3'' - 230 Two years, $2.8 million a year, total $5.6 million.
Just what the doctor ordered: The Capitals fill the need of a second line forward and find someone who might be willing to risk his limbs to set up in front of a goalie. Knuble's career high for points was achieved in 2005-2006 with 61 points, and this last season he tallied 27 goals and 20 assists for 47 points.
It's a safe signing, but it's the right signing. The Caps are lacking grit on the top lines, and it showed in the playoffs. With someone willing to deflect shots and battle near the crease, the Capitals powerplay will benefit from Knuble's style of play.
There really isn't anything to hate about this signing. The money is right, the length is right and the player is right; now it's just time to see if he can live up to the fan-created hype.
Welcome to Washington, Mr. Knuble.
Glad you're on our side.
