Donald Brashear's three-year tenure in Washington has come to an end. The veteran enforcer signed a two-year, $1.4 million contract with the New York Rangers Wednesday.
The Don was a fan favorite for his pounding punches and memorable quotes such as,"This game is gay now. You can't even do anything anymore. They changed the game to favor the superstars. You can't do anything anymore to get some respect out there."
Brashear totaled 10 goals, 15 assists, 25 points, and 396 PIMs in 220 games as a Cap.
But Brash's legacy as a Cap may not be seen as only an enforcer: He was also a shining example of a man achieving his dream. A column by Mike Wise of the Washington Post showed fans a side of Brash that had never been seen before: emotional, driven and human. Brash might be remembered in the annals of hockey history for the McSorely incident and his fistfights, but Caps fans know another side of the hulking monster that "gets teams' respect."
Good luck #87, and now we can retire the joke "Our #87 can beat up your #87."
