Thanks to DaGreatOvechkin for the tip.
Recently, EA Sports has been hard at work unveiling all the new features in NHL '10, one of which is the addition of acrobatic goalie saves (think Varlamov on Crosby).
But while they managed to put in one of the most frustrating-yet-awesome parts of hockey into the game, they managed to insert what might be the most debatable jersey foul of all time.
The pink jersey.
Take a look at David Steckel being robbed by Henrik Lundqvist, cool screenshot right? Only fixate your eyes near the glass and the eyesore soon becomes noticeable. The young lady is rocking the pink, not the red, nor is any member of the home crowd.
Did EA Vancouver not watch a Caps playoff game this season? Did they not see the sea of red? Or has EA handed down an executive order to pink-up the game in the name of catering to casual mothers who flocked to the Wii?
To the hardcore hockey gamer, this is quite possibly as earth-shattering as EA removing blood from injuries in NHL '94. What a sad day that was.
We put a message in to Raczilla, an EA developer, concerning the pink jerseys, but have yet to hear back from him. It's possible he's exiled himself to Africa in shame, or at least we hope so.
The emergence of the pink jersey also brings about worries that there is an option to make the entire team wear pink jerseys, which would likely make Don Cherry endorse the game.
Of course, all joking aside, that's an incredible attention to detail to ad pink jerseys to the game, so in a way I applaud EA's effort to bring an authentic experience to the game, but perhaps they should make the arenas rock the home jerseys at home, rather than some fierce pink.
