The Capitals can cross off "second line center" from their free agency wish-list as center Brendan Morrison has been signed by the Capitals.
The deal is reported to be $1.5 million for one year.
Morrison spent much of his career in Vancouver, but this past season split time between Anaheim and Dalls. In the 2008-2009 season, he appeared in 81 games and tallied 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points.
Morrison had six straight 50-plus point seasons from 2001 to 2007, all of those seasons were spent with the Vancouver Canucks. Despite a dip in production, Morrison is still heralded for his skating and playmaking ability, two skills that fit hand-in-hand with the Capitals system.
Last season Morisson signed with the Anaheim Ducks for 2.75 million, around the same price point as Viktor Kozlov and current Cap Mike Knuble.
Talk about finding a deal in the bargain bin.
Morrison's signing should make for an interesting camp come September, as Brooks Laich was at one point considered a possible candidate for the second-line center job, although Morrison's short contract suggests that he is a bridge for prospect Anton Gustafsson.
