I'm not going to lie here, I read On Frozen Blog's Top Ten Stories for the 2008-2009 season and while I agree with almost all of pucksandbooks selections, I wanted to deviate from the original format laid out by our friends at OFB.

We already had a top 10 games of the year countdown, but what about the single moments that made us cheer, jeer and enjoy being a Capitals fan? You know, those short-but-sweet happenings that may not define a season but stay in our thoughts long after the team has skated its last game?

They may not have been game-winning-goals, clutch saves or amazing comebacks, but who doesn't love a little bit of personality? Here's the top 10 Capitals moments off the ice.

10. The Roller Coaster Photo - Was there a more blogged about photo than this?

Some called it a metaphor, some noticed the young lady sitting next to Jose Theodore (turns it out it's Ted Leonsis' daughter), but most agreed that it was the coolest photo ever taken. Alex Ovechkin leading the charge on the Superman: Ride of Steel? To borrow Alex Semin's favorite word, sick.

#9. What About That Cup Holder? - With the sad and sudden passing of legendary pitchman Billy Mays, perhaps Oxi-Clean should look no further than Bruce Boudreau to hawk products. Bruce won the hearts of hockey fans with the Capitals incredible run to make the playoffs in 2008, but it was the rite-of-passage Lexus commercial reserved for Washington-area head coaches that made him more than a hockey coach to fans.

#8. Fo Shizzle My Moustizzle, Karl Gets Superstitious - Some players tape their stick a certain way. Others go through a special routine or bask in silence before game-time. Karl Alzner taps his stick exactly 88 times and carries around a fake moustache that Snoop Doggy Dog once wore at an Anaheim Ducks game. He also makes a wish at 11:11, has a set move that he always finishes shooting practice with and goes into a trance while listening to "O' Canada."

#7. Alexander Semin Actually Says Something - He's quiet, shy, and somewhat reserved, or so we thought. What happens when you combine Alexander Semin, a Russian journalist and Puck Daddy? A great quote that fans rallied behind but ultimately turned into a foot-in-mouth moment.

"What's so special about [Crosby]? I don't see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there's nothing else. Even if you compare him to Patrick Kane from Chicago ... [Kane] is a much more interesting player."

Semin claims it was an error in translation. Puck Daddy stands by the comments and soon an unexpected Crosby vs. Semin rivalry was born. Of course news later came out that Semin immediately cleared up comment with Sidney himself, but it still doesn't sit well with Pens fans.

Of course the fallout from this whole ordeal has made Alex Semin reclusive to reporters yet again, so there goes hearing about his thoughts on John Tavers and Victor Hedman in the future. Damn you, Puck Daddy!

#6. Alex Ovechkin nearly kills himself, Caps fans laugh -

Alex Ovechkin drives like a wildman. It's no lie and somehow fans haven't been chasing him with dough-rollers yelling at him to slow down for the sake of the franchise. So when video evidence surfaced of just how crazy Ovie was behind the wheel of a Verizon Center service vehicle surfaced what did fans do?

From the YouTube comments...
"you nearly knocked your head off!
lol that was funny though."

Sure, Ovie nearly decapitated himself and Mike Green in the process, but hey, it's good to be Ovie, right?
