Dear Mr. President,
I'd love to see you at a Caps game this season. Just don't come during the playoffs.
Why not?
For one thing, I'll be so busy I may not even notice you.
Also, I'm not sure I want you to see me like that the first time we meet, covered in red from head to toe and screaming obscenities like a senator on health-care vote day. I'm really quite sane -- during the regular season, which is when you should come.
If you come during the playoffs, don't expect me to talk to you. I won't be able to. I am typically hoarse after warmups, then maintain a monk-like silence during periods 1 and 2 so I have something left for the critical third period.
Finally, and most importantly, the Caps simply don't need the distraction during that critical time of year. You get a lot of blame for stuff anyway, right, why get blamed for a playoff loss?
Oh, and don't send the vice president instead. Remember: We're No. 1, not No. 2.
